Your Own Domain
Email Settings for MS Outlook 2007, 2010, 2013
The instructions below apply to those who have their own domain names, not to idComm.com email addresses. If you have your own domain name, please follow these instructions to update your existing email account settings. PLEASE NOTE: All entries should be made in lower case unless otherwise specified.
- Outlook 2007: Click Tools / Account Settings
Outlook 2010, 2013: Click the File tab, then Account Settings, then the Account Settings flyout.
- NOTE: If you’re creating a new account and are in the new account wizard in Outlook 2007 or higher, you will need to check the box for manual setup toward the bottom of the first wizard screen. If you’re just editing an existing account, proceed with the next step.
- In the list, select the email account to be changed and click the Change button at the top.
- In the User Information section, if necessary enter your real name (or business name) and full email address.
NOTE: This address must match the email address you enter in the Login Information section below.
- In the Server Information section, for the Incoming mail server enter pop.domain.com where “domain.com” is your own domain name.
- In the Server Information section, for the Outgoing mail server (SMTP) enter smtp.domain.com where “domain” is your domain name.
- In the Logon Information section, for user name enter your full email address and password.
NOTE: This address must match the email address you enter in the User Information section above.
- Click the More Settings button.
- At the top of the Internet Email Settings screen, click the Outgoing Server tab.
- At the top of this screen, check the box that says, “My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication”.
- At the top click the Advanced tab.
- Make sure the Outgoing server port number is 587.
- Incoming port remains 110.
- Neither incoming nor outgoing servers use SSL or any type of encryption.
- Click OK.
- Click Test Account Settings. When finished, you should end up with 2 green check marks. If there were errors, double check the settings above, particularly that there are no extra spaces, and that the “dots” are actually periods and not commas. This can be hard to distinguish depending on the screen.
- Click Next then Finish.
You should now be ready to send and receive your mail.
